LOGISTICS UNCERTAINTY

Last summer, one of my colleagues was asked to deliver a keynote address on supply chains and volatility. The conference organizers didn't realize how prophetic their request was. Between the time they booked him to speak and the time he delivered his comments, America experienced the horror of September 11. Surprisingly these events did not have a dramatic effect on the advice he dispensed or the new trends he reported―because it turns out that, instead of changing the face of supply chain management, the catastrophe wound up accelerating logistics changes that already had been set in motion.
