Reader P.D.U. writes: "There has been some internal dispute between our [information systems] department and our materials management department over the definition of on-hand inventory. Our new [material requirements planning (MRP)] system uses the term 'on-hand inventory' to reflect total inventory received and not consumed. Any current inventory is therefore 'on-hand.'"
