The ability to truly delight external customers starts well before a product is out the door or the final service is rendered. Rather, it involves the essential, interdependent accomplishments of all members of a company's internal supply chain. As management expert W. Edwards Deming wrote, "What everyone in a company does can be reduced to one of two functions: to serve the customer or someone who does."
