Little has changed in the outlook for the ASW airborne sensor market, which continues to reflect trends in the overall submarine and related undersea warfare market - specifically, the market has been sidelined by land-based international events and threats. Lately, undersea warfare capabilities have become very much secondary to the surface warfare, land attack, and special operations/special projects sectors. Airborne ASW is now a long way down the list of priorities. Although aircraft properly supported by surface ships and long-range surveillance assets are the submarine's most dangerous and most flexible opponents, the battle they are expected to fight has faded to a relatively minor consideration. It will not always remain so, and the research and development funding being expended will lay the groundwork for coping with future threats.
