Caucasus Paradigms: Anthropologies, Histories and the Making of a World Area

摘要

The editors and authors of this volume aim to analyse the existing and emerging unifying codes as an interaction of local and global forces and to put forth a perspective of "crossing borders," disciplinary, geographical, and cultural, beyond the bounded container ideology. [...] the collection is grouped not into simplistic sections, such as a geographical division into the North and South Caucasus, or by political unities of nation states and ethnic minorities, but rather according to problem-oriented "Caucasian paradigms," starting with the most famous branding elements. [...] there are insights into the local production of history itself, the ideologies, and the intellectual and public struggles over sovereignty that show how unstable historical records of times past have been eagerly (re)interpreted by using ethnographic and archival data, school books and modern public rituals.
