This research paper will explore the roles and responsibilities of the chief technology officer (CTO) and chief information officer (CIO). The focus of this research paper will be to understand how the CTO and CIO roles and responsibilities are similar and different. This research paper will also investigate whether companies of the future will merge these two positions into one. Merging these two positions into one could create operational efficiencies by reducing overhead, as well as improve interdepartmental cooperation by removing functional silos.
