Remote CPE Management System Can Ease Complexity for Multi-Play Activation and Customer Service

As global DSL service providers roll out voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and IP television (IPTV) services to complement high-speed Internet access, residential gateways and other access devices are becoming critical points of failure for service availability. Whether the device is a router, set-top box (STB), VoIP adapter, wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) access point, or a combination thereof, managing customer-premise equipment (CPE) can no longer be left only to the subscriber. Service providers are responding by investing in centralized management solutions for all services and vendor equipment, as well as extensible methods for remotely managing CPE service parameters, operational performance, and firmware. Key success metrics will be customer ease of use, accelerated time to market, fewer truck rolls, problem avoidance, and simplified, less costly customer support. CPE management platforms have traditionally been provided as tightly integrated, proprietary solutions bundled with specific CPE devices. As service providers move to adopt a multivendor CPE strategy, demand is increasing for a centralized vendor-agnostic CPE management system capable of integrating, automating, and scaling the delivery of advanced IP services.
