Optimizing Core Networks for IP Transport

摘要

We introduce a novel architecture that integrates Internet protocol (IP) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technologies from a data plane, control plane, and management plane perspective. Such an architecture provides significant capital and operational cost efficiencies, allowing carriers to reduce the cost incurred per bit while significantly scaling up capacity in the network. This paper also highlights the challenges in today's networks and how the proposed architecture would address those challenges.
