ANALYSIS OF THE LEADING TOURISM JOURNALS 1999-2008

According to Jennings (2010) and O'Connor and Baum (2008), academic research has played an important role in the development of tourism. Since the 1960s, tourism researchers have provided roultidisciplinary perspectives into the planning and management of tourism at the local, regional, national and international levels, and offered insights into the expectations, impacts, motivations, needs and satisfaction levels of tourists (c.f. Cohen, 1972; MacCannell, 1973). As tourism developed as a field of study throughout the 1970s and 1980s, an increased number of tourism journals emerged along with dedicated higher education courses and conferences (Leiper, 2000).
