Elite breeding material is introduced to the QueenslandnWheat Breeding Program via a number of sources. The mostnsignificant source has been the International Maize and WheatnImprovement Centre (CIMMYT). The most important nurserynfrom this source for Queensland is the International BreadnWheat Screening Nursery. In the late 1970s the line Brochisnwas introduced via this nursery and found to be high-yieldingnin Queensland. This line was used for crossing in 1979 andn1980. The progeny derived from a number of crosses werenhigh-yielding. Since these crosses included both Anza andnPavon 76 derivatives, which do not combine well, it seems thatnBrochis has good general combining ability.
