Crosses for Sunvale were made at Castle Hill to combinernthe rust resistance genes of VPMl with the quality, agronomic,rnand disease resistance attributes of the Cook recurrent parent.rnCycles of single-plant selection at Narrabri were run inrnconnection with seedling and adult plant rust evaluations atrnCastle Hill and Cobbitty until homogeneity for rust resistancernwas achieved. Single-plant bulks were quality tested andrnprogressed to preliminary yield trials. Wider regional yield andrnquality evaluation followed between 1989 and 1992.
