Two-Day Class Highlights Statistical Topics in Bioinformatics

Every year the Advisory Committee on Continuing Education and the ASA staff on Continuing Education present a series of short courses at JSM. The courses cover a range of topics including those you may have missed in graduate school, such as survival analysis or categorical data analysis, or those that are considerably more current, such as data mining and computational aspects of Bayesian data analysis. Each summer a single course is selected to be offered as a two-day course during the Saturday and Sunday of JSM. This year's selection highlights one of the hottest areas in biostatis-tics: statistical applications in bioinformat-ics and the analysis of gene expression data in particular. The latter is revolutionizing medicine and biology by allowing scientists to measure the expression of thousands of genes or short segments of genes simultaneously.
