2006 IOLs Take Shape

Invited introductory overview lectures (IOLs) arc designed to provide relatively brief and high-quality introductions to important and timely statistical topics. IOLs were introduced in 1997 in response to members' interest in continuing to learn about developments in the statistics profession that lie outside their main areas. They are designed to be accessible to a range of statisticians and are open to all JSM registrants. In some cases, IOLs present material from rapidly developing areas of methodology or applications. In others, they introduce important and challenging statistical topics that are relatively mature, but still relatively new for many in the statistical profession. JSM 2006 will feature IOLs in genetic association studies, adaptive designs/interim pilots, regressiontrees, statistical consulting, computer experiments, imaging statistics, and bootstrap. Provided below are brief highlights of this year's IOLs.
