A Conversation with NSF's Peter March

Peter March joined the National Science Foundation in September 2006 as director of the Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). He specializes in probability and is on leave as a professor of mathematics at The Ohio State University, where he was chair of the department from 1998 to 2006. Thus, in an effort to introduce him to our community and more clearly inform those in the statistics profession of the opportunities provided by the NSF, the ASA executive director and executive director-designate, along with ASA staffers Keith Crank and Valerie Snider, interviewed March. The notes that follow attempt to capture the information gathered by his responses to the questions posed.
