COPAFS Focuses on Statistical Activities

COPAFS is the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics and comprised of the membership of 60 organizations, including professional organizations, businesses, research institutes, and others interested in federal statistics. As a member of COPAFS, the ASA has two representatives from the Government Statistics Section who attend the quarterly meetings and report back to the ASA membership. Highlights of the December 5, 2008, meeting held at the Bureau of Labor Statistics follow.rnEd Spar started his executive directors report by drawing our attention to the federal statistical budgets since 2001. He noted that the budgets, when adjusted for inflation, provide a clearer picture of the cuts that some agencies have experienced. For example, the National Center for Education Statistics budget increases from $80.0 million in 2001 to $88.4 million in 2008, but in adjusted dollars, the budget drops from $70.3 million in 2001 to $60.8 million in 2008.
