Thank you for electing me as the 104th president of the American Statistical Association. The three-year president-elect, president, and past president cycle offers a training year to learn about the many aspects of the ASA. Throughout 2008, I was particularly impressed by the passion and generosity of the many members who participate in a multitude of ways to promote and support the association's vision "to be the world leader in promoting statistical practice, applications, and research; publishing statistical journals; improving statistical education; and advancing the statistics profession." The ASA depends entirely on the good efforts of volunteers and the dedication and skill of its staff. I am grateful for the many and varied contributions made by you on behalf of the statistical community.
