How to salvage Europe's 3G industry

According to Qualcomm's 3G Website, www.3gto-day.com, there are 26 million CDMA2000 users, 32 CDMA2000 networks and more CDMA2000 network upgrades in progress. CDMA2000 delivers increased voice capacity for operators and 40 to 60 kbps average data throughput to end users. Applications leveraging color micro displays and snap-on digital cameras are booming. Things aren't going as well for Europe's preferred 3G standard, W-CDMA. There are a total of 149,000 W-CDMA subscribers ― almost all on Japan's NTT DoCoMo. Only Mobilkom Austria offers commercial service in Europe. Many European 3G (a.k.a. UMTS) operators have delayed planned launches; five have bailed out.
