Safe drinking water, rather than fire protection, is usually the impetus for improvements to water systems With their high-volume pumping systems, large distribution mains, and high-capacity storage facilities, larger municipalities usually have adequate water supplies and pressure for fire-fighting capabilities. Although smaller systems do not have massive, high-powered delivery systems, many rural and suburban communities are nevertheless concerned about improving their water transmission capacities to provide or enhance fire-fighting capacities.
