I thought the article, "Committee Report: Current Perspectives on Residuals Management for Desalting Membranes" (December 2004) was very good, and I have no criticisms. However, one topic that I believe needs further discussion is the management of desalting residuals by sanitary sewer discharge, especially in terms of the effect of local industrial pretreatment programs (IPPs) on the discharge of brine (concentrate) and cleaning solutions.
