March 29, 2006, marks the 125th anniversary of AWWA—125 years of significant accomplishments— indeed excellence—as an association dedicated to the provision of safe water for all. As we reflect on how AWWA has been instrumental in shaping where the water industry is today, it is natural to wonder what the future may hold for AWWA. We are fortunate to be able to say that the future looks very bright. This statement can be made with confidence because of recent activities AWWA has undertaken in order to position itself for the future. If you think about it, it's second nature for those of us in the water industry to engage in long-term thinking—our utility members routinely plan 25-50 years ahead to meet the needs of their communities.
