Siemens Providing €3 Million Mbr Pretreatment System In Italy

Siemens Water Technologies will supply pretreatment to a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system for a new wastewater treatment plant for the Italian towns Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino. The plant is operated by Mediterranea delle Acque, a utility that provides water and wastewater services for the region around Genoa, Italy. Housed partially underground, the plant will benefit the fishing and tourism industries of the two coastal villages by producing high-quality effluent that can be reused for a variety of purposes. When it comes on line in 2009, the €3 million system will be Siemens's largest MBR installation in Europe. Located off the Ligunan Sea, the plant will be able to easily meet the fluctuating water treatment demands from the area's seasonal tourism. The plant's small footprint takes up about one fourth of the space required for traditional activated sludge biological processes-which makes it easier to install an underground bunker hidden from public view.
