In response to the water sector's need to address water security challenges, efforts have been made to identify contamination detection data gaps, to perform research to fill those gaps, and to communicate solutions to the drinking water community. For example, AWWA has sponsored workshops that have examined how to design contamination warning systems (Roberson & Morley, 2005).
