There are certain realities that differentiate one group from another. For humans, one of those realities is the opposable thumb. I remember learning in grade school that it was this feature of the human anatomy that separated us from other species. The opposable thumb, coupled with walking erect, allowed humans to grip objects and make tools. Without it, we would not be the superior species.
