A River Runs Through Him

It was an amazing view. The water was calm, almost still-until it abruptly dropped over the dam, cascading wildly down rocks before reaching the bottom where it swirled and frothed with a force almost beyond comprehension. My friend and I looked at it, stared at it. We were in awe of the power. We walked for a while and talked about the falls and the river and what they meant. This was the city where he grew up, and the river played a significant part in how the city grew up. The river was at the center of everything for this city; among other things, the river generated hydroelectric power when the city was first settled and continues to do so now.
