The following is the second of a two-part question-and-answer series on data management. In Part Ⅰ, published in the November issue, Barry Irani, president and chief executive officer of The Information Store in Houston, analyzed how exploration and production companies could maximize the value of their information technology investments. In this month's Part Ⅱ, oil and gas company data management experts on the front line of the issues discuss data management challenges and solutions. Panelists Ifeanyi Ofili and Joseph A. Mills represent the perspectives of both a major international company and a privately owned U.S. producer. Ofili is responsible for corporate subsurface data management at Shell Petroleum Development Co. of Nigeria Ltd. (SPDC). Mills is vice president of operations at Black Stone Minerals Co. LP, one of the largest fee mineral and royalty owners in the United States. He is responsible for the company's land administration, land management, engineering, and geology/geophysics efforts.
