Range Resources Hails EPA Decision To Drop Parker County Order

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has dismissed its "imminent and substantial endangerment administrative order" originally filed against Range Resources Corp. and Range Production Co. on Dec. 7, 2010. The federal agency alleged the company violated the Safe Drinking Water Act by drilling two wells into the Barnett Shale, which EPA said contaminated a drinking water aquifer. The U.S. Department of Justice followed the EPA action a month later by filing a civil action in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, against the two defendants. According to the lawsuit, the EPA complaint asked the court to order the companies to comply with the SDWA and pay a civil penalty of as much as $ 16,500 a day.
