The Eagle Ford Shale has seen unprecedented growth in the six years since Petrohawk Energy Corp. discovered the Hawkville Field in La Salle County, Tx. But one of the most significant and perhaps far-reaching developments in the Eagle Ford play occurred this year in Washington, not in South Texas, when the U.S. Department of Commerce in April gave Pioneer Natural Resources and Enterprise Production Partners LP the green light to export ultralight-processed oil-or stabilized condensate as Pioneer calls it-in a ruling that became public in June. The approval marks the first time a U.S. company has been able to export condensate since the Arab oil embargo in the early 1970s. Speaking Sept. 3 at the Barclays CEO Energy-Power Conference in New York, Scott Sheffield, chief executive officer of Pioneer, announced the company already had exported two cargos of condensate: one to South Korea and the other to Europe. He told the conference that Pioneer was in negotiations with other foreign buyers to sell more of the condensate the company produced in the Eagle Ford.
