Over the past year, oil and gas development has continued to expand across the state of Texas, with oil production levels surpassing 3.0 million barrels a day for the first time since the late 1970s. Gains in Texas crude oil production have occurred primarily in those regions that contain unconventional tight oil and shale reservoirs, including South Texas' Eagle Ford play and the vast Permian Basin in West Texas.
