摘要

The California Independent Petroleum Association reports that the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is citing climate change risks in its decision to deny 21 applications for permits to drill 21 wells in Kern County, Ca., because these wells would have been hydraulically fractured. According to press accounts, California Oil and Gas Supervisor Uduak-Joe Ntuk on July 8 notified Aera Energy it was denying its APDs because of concerns about "public health and safety and environmental quality, including (the) reduction and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions." Governor Gavin Newsom's office praised the decision, CIPA notes. "The governor has been clear that we need to do more to combat the climate crisis and create a healthier future," Newsom spokesperson Erin Mellon is quoted. "He has also been clear that he does not see a role for fraccing in that future."
