NONPARAMETRIC SUBSET SELECTION PROCEDURES: APPLICATIONS AND PROPERTIES

Nonparametric ranking and selection procedures are used in the analysis of state motor vehicle fatality rates. Operating characteristics of these procedures are developed. It is observed in this study, as well as in earlier studies, that selection with respect to one of the nonparametric procedures implies selection with respect to another. This property is further explored and shown not to hold in general. A counterexample is provided within the context of the application herein explored.
