Virtually wrecked

Most drivers tend to avoid crashing into things, but for engineers working at Dutch firm Tass, deliberately wrecking cars is all part of a smashing day at the office. It is strangely comforting to know that the shards of bent and broken metal being created at Tass will have a very real impact on the safety of drivers and pedestrians. In the centre of the large open factory floor sits a warped, abstract metal sculpture. It only vaguely resembles a car now, but this is the final result of months of testing and development work by countless engineers.
