摘要

Attempts to control health-care-associated infections have received renewed attention in recent months from government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and academic research groups. At the federal level, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) this year launched a wide-ranging effort to create an action plan to combat these infections.rnOn the nonprofit and academic fronts, a coalition of infection control groups in October released a new set of guidelines for hospitals, aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections. These federal and nonprofit infection control efforts focus on catheter-induced urinary tract infections, surgical site infections, central-line-associated bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections, and Clostridium difficile infections.
