A few years ago, pharmacy leaders at the University of Tennessee Medical Center began noticing an increase in the number of requests and questions that required clinical expertise and that came from health care professionals working hours other than the day shift. In 2006, the department started a program that allows a pharmacist to advise on the care of patients who arrive at night and provides teaching opportunities for students and residents.
