The January 2011 issue of the AJES contains three groups of articles. The issue begins with four articles on urban issues, starting with Sally Kwak's and James Mak's article on the political economy of property tax reform in Hawaii. They argue that political issues regarding economic growth drove the reforms, but their desired impact on economic growth is inconclusive. Changing directions, Unsal Ozdilek's article addresses what he finds are omissions in the general literature on urban land values. The omissions are examined in terms of seven questions relating to the specificity of the type of land under study, and he concludes that the literature's failure to address them has rendered it quite ambiguous and perhaps irrelevant for under-standing urban land values.
