Symptoms of VWD include: * Bruising from minor injuries * Nosebleeds that are hard to stop * If you are a woman, heavy bleeding during your period * Heavy bleeding after a cut or injury, or during surgery or dental procedures * Blood in your urine or stool * If you have severe VWD: bleeding for no apparent reason, pain and swelling in your joints and muscles from bleeding, a bump or bad bruise from bleeding under the skin (called a hematoma) If you have several of these symptoms, your doctor may order blood tests to evaluate for VWD and other bleeding disorders. Always check with your doctor before taking medicine. * Tell your doctor and dentist that you have VWD, in case you need medicine before certain procedures. * Wear a medical identification bracelet so that health care workers will know about your disease if you are injured. * Stay at a healthy weight with exercise, such as swimming, biking, and walking.
