The Nobel Committee that selected me, along with Robert J. Aumann, to receive the prize reported that we had "deepened our understanding of conflict and cooperation through game-theoretic analysis." That implies that the study of conflict and cooperation counts as "economic science." But "conflict and cooperation" are evidently also subjects of other disciplines, and it is possible—I think likely—that a social scientist who has explored conflict and cooperation sufficiently to be able to exploit the subject within one discipline may be able to do so, perhaps equally well, in other disciplines.
