About 12 years ago, the industry began hearing about the "European" method of pressing and finishing garments. With the introduction of tensioning equipment in the U.S. four years ago, the equipment has finally begun to replace a lot of labor-intensive presses and inexperienced finishers to produce better-looking garments. In short, the industry got used to the idea. Now―out of necessity brought by increasing regulation and the unserviceable dyes and trims of today's garments―many drycleaners are getting comfortable with the idea that the "alternative" solvents can be effective for cleaning textiles.
