More than a year after losing his $54 million lawsuit against Custom Cleaners owners Soo and Jin Chung, Roy Pearson is set to again argue the case in front of Washington, D.C.'s Court of Appeals. The court will begin hearing arguments Oct. 22, officials say. Judge Judith Bartnoff ruled against Pearson in D.C.'s Superior Court last year, rejecting his claims and charging him the Chungs' court costs. The suit sought $54 million in damages for a single lost pair of pants under the District's consumer-protection laws. Pearson is also suing the District, alleging that it broke the law in rejecting his reappointment last year to a second 10-year term as an administrative judge. Sources told the Washington Examiner that he was fired because his behavior in the case and in his own courtroom showed a lack of judicial judgment and temperament.
