Pine Valley Polymers Inc. now offers 100% biodegradable, recyclable poly garment bags designed to help protect the environment. The poly is extruded with a special additive, the company says, that helps break down the carbon bonds in the plastic, lowering its molecular weight over time until it loses strength. Stabilizers ensure that the bags have a useful life of six months to five years, the company says, but they will eventually begin to degrade even outside a landfill or other biologically active environment. When heated in the recycling process, the additive becomes inert, allowing them to be recycled alongside normal poly bags. The poly bags are available in traditional clear, tinted and custom-printed versions.
