The Drycleaning & Laundry Institute's (DLI) 2008 training schedule includes opportunities to attend the School of Drycleaning Technology's Introduction to Drycleaning course April 21-25 and Advanced Drycleaning course April 28-May 9. DLI offers the courses at its headquarters in Laurel, Md., and they are accredited through the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Students learn in DLI's instruction area, and put their knowledge to practice using conventional and tensioning finishing equipment, hot and cold stain-removal boards, a variety of wetcleaning and drycleaning machines, and other tools. The one-week Introduction to Dry-cleaning course is designed for individuals new to the industry, including employees, owners and managers with less than one year of experience. The course covers fibers and fabrics, workflows, drycleaning principles, assembly and invoicing drycleaning machinery, cleaning and drying cycles, elementary stain removal, and finishing procedures for pants, coats and skirts.
