CO hydrogenation on copper-cobalt catalysts gives mixtures of linear alcohols, along with hydrocarbon co-products. Higher alcohol formation on these catalysts requires associatively and dissociatively adsorbed CO in close proximity on the surface1. This work explores the way in which copper addition to Co/SiO2 assists such interaction2.
