Solution-processed photovoltaics represent a promising routenforward in reducing the cost of solar energy production. Quantum dotn(QD) solids are one such solution-processed system that is beingndeveloped. In addition to being solution processable, QD solar cellsn(QDSCs) have a higher limiting single junction power conversionnefficiency than that possible using conventional bulk or thin filmnsemiconductors due to enhanced multiple exciton generation (MEG)nin the QDs, thus are of interest for high efficiency, low cost systems.nHere, we will describe work where we have developed a direct cationnexchange synthesis to produce QDs with a large range of sizes andnwith in situ chloride and cadmium passivation. The synthesized QDsnhave excellent air stability, maintaining their photoluminescencenquantum yield under ambient conditions for more than 30 days.nFurthermore, we explore QDSCs using a metal halide to displacenoleate ligands.
