There is an industrial need to accurately characterize the structure of complex materials. Current techniques often rely on a subjective visual examination of the material sur- face. In this study, a digital camera was used to image ceramic foams having similar structure, but different pore sizes. The structures of the foams were quantified by taking one-dimensional Fourier transforms of digital images of the surfaces of each sample.
