The self-taught cake artist Karen Portaleo rarely does things by half-measure. Within five years of stepping foot into Atlanta's Highland Bakery, run by her friend Stacey Eames, Karen was head designer at the bakery. She and her team won four Food Network Cake Challenges and her client list soon included musicians, celebrities, politicians and major corporation commissions. She's currently finalizing the plans for a European teaching and demonstration tour scheduled for later this year that will include The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
