"I adore modern cake design; clean lines, bold patterns, organic elements," says Shannon Bond. "My main inspiration behind this design was a gorgeous dress by Bottega Veneta's Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear fashion line. The moment I saw this dress, I knew I had to use elements from it in a modern design." Shannon used varying shades of cornflower blue food coloring to paint the front stripes of fondant. Metallic copper paint splatter and gold leaf wafer paper sequins bring shimmer, and a little modern art flair to the cake. Incorporating vertical ruffles around the base of the cake, tipped with gold to bring in some movement. The design is finished with gumpaste orchids also tipped in gold with bright gold centers.
