Located 16km (10mi) southeast of Kandahar, KDH has the busiest single runway in the world with more than 21,000 movements per month. However, most of the 400-plus aircraft deployed to KDH are part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force mission. Although the airport was opened to commercial operations in 2006, there are fewer than 20 scheduled passenger flights a week, flown mainly by Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air. The vast majority of commercial traffic to Kandahar consists of cargo flights chartered by the military.
