Veteran & Vintage: Soviet Vintage in the Open

Budapest's Ferihegy Airport (IATA: BUD/ICAO: LHBP-Airways June 2002) is home to a small but interesting collection of vintage airliners, parked in an enclosure next to the terminal. The Ferihegyi Repueloegep Emlekpark (or Open Air Aircraft Exhibition, as the airport's website calls it), features principal types from the inception of national airline MALEV (Magyar Legikozlekedesi Vallalat-Airways, Sep/Oct 1997) in 1956 to the end of the Soviet era. Upon payment of a modest entrance fee, visitors gain access to one of the region's better exhibitions of Soviet-designed and -built aircraft.
