The Baltic Way: 30 Years Later

ON AUGUST 23, 1989, some two million people joined hands to form a human chain across the three Baltic countries-Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Called the Baltic Way, the event drew the attention of the world by peacefully demonstrating the people's determination for freedom from the Soviet Union. Soon afterwards, the countries regained their independence.
