Austin-Bergstrom Airport (IATA: AUS), in Texas, USA, has introduced four temporary airbridges into service so that it can proceed with planned expansion work. Declared operational on October 28, the bridges have opened up enough space to push ahead with the airport's next notable step in a nine-gate expansion project. Demolition work is now being undertaken on the apron necessary to extend the current Barbara Jordan Terminal beyond its existing east end. After creating a secured construction perimeter fence and site,the existing Gates 2 and 3 bridges will be removed. Then, heavy demolition, including the removal of existing concrete will begin, preparing the site for the installation of utilities service and structural foundations. The expansion project is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
