Our progress feels painstakingly slow, but eventually the heavily laden de Havilland Canada DHC-3T Turbo Otter climbs above the ever-rising terrain as we make our way northwest. The scenery changes dramatically in just a few short minutes as the green of the lower river flatlands gives way first to the speckled grey of bare, exposed rocks and then the blinding white glare of eternal glacial ice.
